When I was a kid, I used to walk down to the Pioneer Country Store and pick up a pack of Garbage Pail Kids for 25 cents. The series of collectible cards featured twisted artwork (inspired by the widespread success of the Cabbage Patch Kids) and one-line puns using different common first names. For example, there was one that I remember with a caption of “Adam Bomb,” and sure enough, there was a kid with a fiery burst shooting from the top of his head. This might be the original or the inspiration for the head-exploding emojis 🤯.
I opened pack after pack, waiting for “Hans” to be featured as one of the names for a Garbage Pail Kid and wondering how it would be represented.
After getting to Series 6 of GPK, I finally got my wish.

Do you remember these cards? Do you have one for your name? If you want to learn about this strange card series, watch The History of The Garbage Pail Kids: From Parody to Pop.
