Collecting IRL junk is also like collecting other forms of junk. Those 10k photos on your cloud storage account. Old thoughts and feelings that percolate. I am learning a tough lesson. It is okay to have less.

So, over the past weeks, I have been focused on opening bins, bags, and boxes. I hired a person who literally sat with me and asked me the same question for each item. It was nice to work with a third-party who has no emotion for the things.

The process for each item: 1) has a place in your home, 2) needs to be thrown out, 3) will be donated, 4) will be given away, or 5) will be sold. There are no other options. It takes time to make this choice. It’s not a sexy process… we just tested each item with their process.

But, wow, after weekends of doing this, I feel so much better. I rediscovered some cool things I had forgotten about, including my first computer and the Morse code key that my dad and I built in 1984. I also shared a bunch of stories with my kid. It was such a joy to see what resonated with my 8-year-old. He snuck away an ioBridge bookbag behind his back. I let him “steal” it. When a friend dropped by, he told him all about ioBridge. I realized that the stories and a few items are all that’s needed to carry my story forward.

Disney announced the release of the first card for the Lorcana trading card game at the D23 Expo. If you were one of the attendees you could pick this up at one of the booths. The first collectible card features Mickey Mouse illustrated by Nicholas Kole.

I am tracking what I know about the cards and promo items for Lorcana. Let me know what you find out. And, let’s make some trades!

Expo Collector’s Set

At the D23 Expo, Disney and Ravensburger released a promo card set featuring six cards from Lorcana in a sealed slipcase, as announced on Twitter. This is a Disney Expo-exclusive set of cards. Each card features the Disney Expo logo.

Pins

At the D23 Expo, people were able to get two different pins. One pin was issued to employees, and the other was offered as a promo at the Ravensburger booth.

I have been fascinated with Bernie Wrightson’s artwork and style. Some time ago, I started collecting all of the cards released by FPG Cards back in 1993 through 1996. I have nearly a complete collection of Bernie Wrightson’s FPG Cards… I recently got a sealed box of More Macabre cards at a thrift store. I recorded a timelapse video of George and I openning all 36 packs looking for a rare metal card or a signature card. But. I digress.

In 1983, Marvel Comics and Bernie Wrightson released an illustrated version of Frankenstein with an introduction by Stephen King. This book has been reprinted several times and is my favorite way to read Frankenstein. It’s a great pairing of the original text with dark illustrations. I like Bernie’s take on Frankenstein’s monster. It feels true to how Mary Shelley described the creature and its construction.

Searching For Answers

I am trying to collect as much as I can from the FPG line of cards featuring the artwork from Bernie Wrightson. I research eBay, card lists, blogs, and websites to find some new things. I still have some remaining questions and looking for a few items. Contact me if you have some info or want to trade.

• I am looking for the “Gold Hologram” cards from series one. I have opened a lot of packs and have never come across one.
• I am looking for an uncut sheet of The Master of the Macabre series of cards from 1993.
