YouTube Short Video Dimensions in Camtasia

I wanted to create a YouTube Short today. A YouTube Short is like a TikTok or Instagram Reel video and is sized for mobile phone consumption. I have access to a video editing tool called Camtasia that also does easy screen recording. I wondered what the appropriate dimensions are for YouTube Shorts so that my video shows up on the viewer’s phone correctly.

It turns out that the dimensions are just Full HD (1920 x 1080) dimensions flipped. We are used to wide screens, but our phones are vertical. So, YouTube Short video dimensions are 1080 x 1920. I tried that on my computer to record a section of my screen, and I couldn’t get this flipped dimension to fit since I have a wide-screen monitor. I settled on 540 x 960 as the appropriate Camtasia dimensions for creating YouTube Shorts. This is just half of the flipped Full HD dimensions, but it fits on my wide-screen monitor.

Make a Collage of Your Conference Stickers

Part of the fun for me while attending conferences is collecting a little token from each booth or interaction that I have. I love seeing my filled swag bag with stickers at the end of an event as it reminds me of what I accomplished and the engagements. I know that other fellow community folks love collecting tokens too.

So, what do you do with all of the stickers? I decided to make a collage of stickers from my tech conference and game convention attendance. I put most of the stickers on a large float frame. I also see this as a living document meaning I sometimes add to it, cover things up, and the “artwork” evolves over time.

As you can see from my varied blog posts, I have a lot of interests. This is also reflected in my sticker collage. I love experiencing new things and collecting some proof of work. What do you do with your stickers?

Making and Designing Board Games Lecture

I have been leading a 10-week workshop on tabletop game design near Boston, MA. Over 20 students have participated and several of them have created board game design prototypes throughout the course. This is really exciting to see! I gave a lecture last week to go over the entire course in one 30-minute session. I share a few of their game designs. Fortunately, the lecture was recorded and uploaded to YouTube. Over the coming weeks, I will be sharing the content for the board game design course and release more supporting content.

Frank Drake released an equation that predicts how many technological civilizations are in the universe.
