I loved broadcasting. My dad really encouraged my love of radio. He got me my first microphone when I was a kid. The microphone had a built-in FM transmitter and I could transmit my voice to any radio nearby. This was pure magic to my four-year-old mind. I started podcast over 10 years ago and lately, I have been incorporating my four-year-old. George has been a regular co-host and he has injected even more silliness and excitement. My dad did it again. For Christmas 2021, he bought me the microphone that I used at the radio station that I worked at: the Electro-Voice RE27N/D broadcast microphone.

The Electro-Voice RE27N/D mic needs a control interface to make it work with your PC and recording software. After checking out two different interfaces, I selected the Elgato Wave XLR. The Wave XLR amplifies the small signal of the microphone, makes it easy to mix different audio signals, and has enough boast for monitoring with headphones.

I started one back in 2008 and have faithfully produced episodes and have been your voice of reason in this chaotic world.

On my latest episode, I invite George to co-host with me. He was drawn to my glowing new microphone in my office. I recently bought the HyperX QuadCast to refresh my old set up. George loved the red LEDs illuminating the pop filter.

After a few minutes of making sounds and talking gibberish, I decided to record a new episode of The NotHans Podcast. George was an excellent co-host. He was rolling with the conversation and even told a joke. You have to check it out.

If you don’t his name, you probably know his voice. He has voiced a lot of characters from some of my favorite cartoons, everything from The Ren & Stimpy Show to Futurama.

I have always been fascinated watching Billy West in action. Check out his segment on Penn’s Sunday School to get a sense of his extreme versatility and voice talent.

I have been a faithful listener to the podcast since it started so I was honored to be a part of his show. Bruce asks very interesting questions and has his audience at heart. His questions help answer questions that the audience might be wrestling with when making a decision about getting into IoT (or not).

In his latest episode, Bruce asks, “Are Open Source IoT Platforms Ready for Primetime?” My open source IoT project is ThingSpeak. I created ThingSpeak back in 2010 as an ioBridge project and it has really taken off. The source code for the ThingSpeak API is available on GitHub and is being worked on by over 100,000 developers from around the world.
