Snack food Remix: Doritos 3D Crunch = Bugles + Fritos Flavoring

On a 2,000 road trip with my family, I got lured into buying a bag of Doritos 3D Crunch. I am sucker for bold packaging. And, I love corn chips with maximum surface area to maximize their flavor potential. And, I am someone who likes to take bold action and step outside my comfort zone. Finally there is a snack food that checks all of my boxes.

Doritos believes there’s boldness in everyone. We champion those who are true to themselves, who live life fully engaged and take bold action by stepping outside of their comfort zone and pushing the limits.

You know how they say that we eat with our eyes first? Well, at first glance, I noticed something right away. Some stored away memories of an adjacent snack food came to mind. The distinctive ridges on these “Doritos” made me recall Bugles. At first crunch, I was like, yep, there are definitely Bugles. The crunch was definetly at 11 but they closed th end of the Bugles. I remember being a kid with Bugles on my fingertips.

Bugles on Fingers

At this point, you might be wondering about the taste. They taste great, but they are not Doritos flavored. They tasted like Chili Cheese Fritos.

I am not the only one who noticed. I found Reddit posts, blogs, and YouTube videos talking about the connection to Bugles and Fritos. Like we weren’t going to notice? Or, maybe we were supposed to notice. I am convinced that Doritos 3D Crunch is a deliberate remix. Mixing together brands, flavors, textures, and nostalgia. Everything is a remix. Why would snack food be any different? I enjoyed them and enjoyed my nostalgic journey. Welcome to the Corn Chip Cinematic Universe.
